Celtic supporting defender Kieran Tierney has kept quiet over whether he thinks Rangers should be given a guard of honour in the Old Firm derby at the weekend by Sky Sports.
Steven Gerrard’s men have now wrapped up the league title, and tradition states that Rangers should be given a clap on to the field as they are champions.
However, whether Celtic will oblige and give their fierce rivals congratulations for ending their run of titles remains to be seen.
And when asked whether he thinks Rangers should be applauded on to the pitch, Tierney said: “It’s not up to me! You know what it’s like up there, that’s what I’m saying.”
Tierney also claimed that victory would be huge for Celtic this weekend, even though they can’t stop Rangers at this point.
“I think they’d like to [win]. With the way the season has went, it’s a massive game to get the win,” he said.
“They’re unbeaten in the league and just to end that would be big. They will be doing everything they can to win, they’ve had this weekend off as well, so they’ve had a bit of time training and I hope that’s been good because it’s hard to get week’s in to training at Celtic, because there’s so many games.”
Unfortunately for Celtic they have shown very little to suggest that they can stop Rangers right now.
The Light Blues have been the dominant force in Scotland, and it will take a sharp up-turn in Celtic’s performance levels if they are to get anything out of the weekend’s game.
Celtic do, at least, have a new manager in place with John Kennedy in temporary charge, and that may just give some optimism that a change of ideas could help them improve.
