Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney has always been fearless – at least according to his former Celtic teammate Charlie Mulgrew.
Mulgrew has told The Scottish Sun that people just seem to think that Tierney’s attitude is great now he’s an Arsenal player.
However, Mulgrew suggested that Tierney was always fearless even during his first days in the Celtic first-team setup.
Mulgrew claims he knew Tierney has a ‘right good chance’ of becoming a star having seen his demeanour at Celtic.
“People talk about KT’s attitude now he’s an Arsenal player. But I saw that on the first day he trained at Celtic. Honestly, he was fearless,” said Mulgrew.
“I know what it’s like to make the step up from training with the youth team to the first team and it’s terrifying. He was only 17 at the time and it’s a daunting thing to do, especially when you’ve been at the club since you were 12 or 13 and have looked up to all the players in the first team.”
“It’s always easy in hindsight to talk about players who are at the top of the game, as he is now. But you could see he had a right good chance literally from day one,” he added.
Tierney quickly looked like becoming a star at Celtic, emerging into Ronny Deila’s side in 2015.
It took four years for Tierney to land his Premier League as Arsenal pounced in 2019.
There were many rumours linking Tierney with a host of Premier League clubs throughout his time at Celtic.
Sadly, that’s what the Bhoys have to live with. As soon as a player begins to shine for Celtic, Premier League clubs start cirling.
We saw it with Virgil van Dijk and Odsonne Edouard, even Stuart Armstrong.
Liel Abada and Kyogo Furuhashi are likely to attract similar interest in the future, possibly following Tierney to England one day.
Many at Celtic still love Tierney, and the door may well be open for him to return one day in the future, potentially coming back for a second great spell.
