Speaking on The Beautiful Game Podcast, Keinan Davis has been speaking about Emi Buendia and what he’s been like since he joined Aston Villa.
Buendia joined the Midlands club as their record signing this summer, but unfortunately, it’s fair to say that he hasn’t hit the ground running so far.
Indeed, he has just one goal and two assists to his name in the Premier League so far this season, but Davis says that he’s ripping it up behind the scenes.
Indeed, the striker says that he’s always one step ahead in training, while he also claims that he plays with a lot of intensity, throwing in tackles and playing with a typical South Americal bite.
What’s been said about Buendia?
Davis spoke about Buendia.
“He’s technically good as well, but you know that most South Americans, they have that little bite in them, you know like in training he might be throwing tackles in and things like that. Of course though, you can tell he’s sharp, he’s always one step ahead and that,” Davis said.
Typical South American
We don’t like to characterise any players, but it sounds as though Buendia does have that typical South American style.
In Uruguay it’s described as the ‘Garra Charrua’, and while that’s a Uruguayan term to describe the passion and tenacity they play with in that country, it certainly applies to Argentina as well.
Just think about players such as Erik Lamela, who was also notoriously intense in Tottenham training and Carlos Tevez who was never scared to put a foot in and you can see this pattern.
Buendia plays with that level of fearlessness, and while his teammates may not appreciate it in training, it’s great to see on the pitch.
