Thriving on loan at Monaco, Leicester City might finally be able to sell Islam Slimani

Leicester City have struggled to sell Islam Slimani over the last two years but they might finally get their wish at the end of this season.

Islam Slimani’s Leicester City career has to be viewed as a huge disappointment. The Algerian was the Foxes’ record signing when they brought him to the King Power from Sporting Lisbon but his performances were underwhelming to say the least.

Slimani played 46 times for Leicester in all competitions but scored just 13 times. His biggest highlight for the Foxes came in Europe when he became the first Leicester player to score in the Champions League. The now 31-year-old has since gone out on loan to Newcastle United and Fenerbahce where he struggled for form too.

However, Slimani has finally found a place that he can call home at Monaco under Leonardo Jardim where he has gotten off to a flying start. The Algerian has scored four goals and assisted four more in just five starts for the principality club, setting a new record in Ligue 1.

Slimani has had a better start as a newcomer to a Ligue 1 campaign than the likes of Neymar and Zlatan Ibrahimovic among other greats to have played in France. (Guardian) The striker has a brilliant relationship with Monaco boss Jardim who was also Slimani’s manager at Sporting Lisbon back in the 2013/14 season.

Monaco have an option to buy Slimani next summer at the end of his loan spell and there is no reason to suggest that they won’t trigger that clause. Ben Yedder and Slimani seem to compliment each other brilliantly and with a brilliant midfield of Golovin, Bakayoko and Cesc Fabregas, they are certain to get all the service that they need to have a good season.

Leicester might finally be able to get rid of Slimani for a decent fee if he continues his form till the end of the season. With Jamie Vardy firing like always and Brendan Rodgers working his magic at the King Power, a move away suits all parties involved and Monaco would be a perfect destination for Slimani to end his career.
