Everton suffered an embarrassing 5-1 defeat at home to Atalanta and left Caretaker boss David Unsworth with just one win from his six games in charge.
The Toffees big name players and new signings are showing no real signs of improvement and are in need of a wake up call. That could come from young players taking their place in the team.
The likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Jonjoe Kenny and Benie Baningime have progressed to the first team from the under 23s in the last 12 months and Unsworth, who was manager of the under 23s, a chance to perhaps bring a few more youngsters through. Here are three who he should consider at the weekend:
Josh Bowler
Josh Bowler joined the Toffees this summer from Queens Park Rangers. The 18 year-old winger has featured in this seasons Checkatrade Trophy and has made decent progress. He has great dribbling ability and has experienced first team football as he made his QPR debut on the final day of last season.
Bassala Sambou
Bassala Sambou has impressed for the under 23s this season. He’s scored two goals this season, following up from his six last season. The striker, who joined from Coventry City’s academy, may be looked at by Unsworth who may need to another striking option if Oumar Niasse remains suspended, subject to an appeal.

David Henen
David Henen is another forward in good form for the under 23s. He’s scored six goals in six games and was also influential as Unsworth’s under 23s won the Premier League Two title last season.
