Manchester City, Everton and Liverpool could have players of interest to Sheffield Wednesday.
Jos Luhukay admitted last month that Sheffield Wednesday will look to Premier League under-23 teams when it comes to strengthening his squad this summer, with loan deals presumably being targeted.
So here are three young stars the Owls would be wise to take a look at, from Manchester City, Everton and Liverpool…
Tosin Adarabioyo (Manchester City)
Linked with Wednesday on several occasions – most recently before January’s transfer deadline – Adarabioyo is a player the Owls could again consider if they fail to bring Frederico Venancio back to Hillsborough next season. The 20-year-old Mancunian has been on the periphery of City’s first team for a while now, but has only made eight appearances. Regular football is perhaps the next step in Adarabioyo’s development, and playing alongside the experienced Tom Lees in an Owls back three could have its benefits.
Antonee Robinson (Everton)
While Adam Reach may have impressed in his wing-back audition against Norwich, understudies Morgan Fox and George Boyd – who in fairness is new to the role – have not been quite as effective when called upon. On paper, Robinson – who scored or created more goals (four) than Fox and Boyd combined (three) this past Championship season, which he spent on loan to Bolton Wanderers – would be an upgrade on both players, and would bring with him a much craved attribute – pace. Everton are being tipped to strengthen in the American’s position, which could be good news for Wednesday, although the Toffees may yet wish to keep him to themselves.
Ryan Kent (Liverpool)
A regular user of 4-2-3-1 in Germany, Luhukay’s dearth of available wide options have made if hard for him to replicate that at Hillsborough. With Ross Wallace released, a winger – preferably one with pace – could feature highly on the Dutchman’s summer wishlist, and disappointing loan spells at Freiburg and Bristol City should not deter Wednesday from exploring a move for Kent – another player they were linked with earlier in the campaign. The 21-year-old played a mere 806 minutes in 2017-18, which is certainly not an environment to thrive in, but impressed up the road at Barnsley last term. Despite having signed a new long-term deal last summer, Kent’s Liverpool chances look slim at present – especially after Harry Wilson’s displays for Hull City and Wales this campaign – and one last loan spell could be required to convince them of his ability.
