Huddersfield Town’s Philip Billing is really flourishing this season.
As one of the Premier League’s biggest clubs, Tottenham Hotspur get linked with various players on a regular basis; many names, in fact, you’ll have read on this very website.
Over the next few months, Spurs will be linked with a whole host of midfielders, as speculation over the futures of Mousa Dembele and Victor Wanyama suggests Mauricio Pochettino is expecting some changes in his engine room.
Whilst young talents Frenkie de Jong and Tanguy Ndombele will be targeted, they may face major competition for those two wonderkids, and may need to look closer to home for a midfielder they can nurture.
He may not grab headlines, but Huddersfield Town’s Philip Billing is one player that would fit the bill for Spurs – and they have allegedly watched him in the past.
The Sun claimed in April 2016 that Spurs were watching Billing in the Championship, and whilst he was just raw potential at that point, he is truly blossoming this season.
The 22-year-old Dane, who stands at 6ft 6in tall, has been Huddersfield’s star performer this season, and he would be quite the force in midfield if Dembele and Wanyama move on.
The stats show that Billing has make 27 tackles this season; only six Premier League players have more, whilst he has also racked up 16 interceptions, which is beaten by only six Premier League players again, whilst his technical ability shouldn’t be ignored, as his six successful dribbles is as many as Dembele – admittedly in more time, but he has that ability to go through the gears in midfield.
Billing is really developing well under the radar, but having had him scouted on Pochettino’s watch nearly three years ago, he is living up to his – pardon the pun – billing, and it may be time for Spurs to firm up their interest next year before another Premier League club spots his potential and land him themselves.
