West Bromwich Albion’s quest to avoid relegation from the Premier League will temporarily be put to one side this weekend as Alan Pardew’s team switch their focus to the FA Cup third round and their trip to face League Two side Exeter City.

It seems likely that Pardew will make several changes to his team for the game at St James Park and there are some players who will be especially eager to impress the manager.

Gareth McAuley

With Jonny Evans and Ahmed Hegazi firmly established as West Brom’s first-choice central-defensive pairing, McAuley has mainly been a backup player this season.

The 38-year-old could receive a runout against Exeter, however, and will be looking to prove to Pardew that he can be relied upon if needed in the second half of the campaign.

Sam Field

The talented young midfielder has made six Premier League appearances for West Brom this season but hasn’t featured much in the past month.

This game represents an excellent opportunity for Field to produce a standout display.

Oliver Burke

Another player with much potential, Burke has become increasingly involved for Pardew’s side of late.

If he was to start against Exeter then the Scottish youngster, who can play on either flank or up front, will be determined to make a major impact.
