Steve Bruce has predicted Achraf Lazaar will miss at least the next six weeks of his spell on loan at Sheffield Wednesday from Newcastle, ruling him out of Monday’s derby against Sheffield United.
The Moroccan had impressed in each of his two Owls outings, the last of which ended prematurely thanks to a hamstring injury.
But who could replace him in Wednesday’s left-back position?

Morgan Fox
Pros: He’s a natural left-back and has shown a substantial improvement of late, helping Wednesday record clean sheets in four of his last five outings.
Cons: He lacks Lazaar’s offensive capabilities and is not as good technically. Fitness is an issue after two games out.
Liam Palmer
Pros: He performed well there for an hour against Brentford on Tuesday, is quicker than Fox and fully fit.
Cons: He possesses little left-back experience and is all right foot, which could disrupt the Owls’ attacking balance.
Jordan Thorniley
Pros: He’s a natural left-footer and is perfectly built for fiercely-contested fixtures such as these. Additionally, his inclusion would give Wednesday an option to match United’s 3-5-2 system – although they’d still need a wing-back (Adam Reach perhaps?).
Cons: It’s not his favoured position. Like Fox, he lacks the Newcastle player’s offensive capabilities, is not as good technically and remains a doubt to face Sheffield United.
