West Ham United have struggled for much of the campaign but that does not mean everyone has under-performed.
West Ham United have not had the best of starts to the new season, but there are still a few reasons to be positive as we head into yet another unwanted international break.
The Hammers’ dramatic victory against Swansea City means Slaven Bilic’s side are 15th in the Premier League with seven points from seven matches and while there is still a lot of work to be done, they are at least starting to pull away from the bottom three.
Here we take a look at three West Ham players who can be truly regarded as unsung heroes this season:
Jose Fonte
Portuguese international Jose Fonte had a hard time when he first joined West Ham from Southampton, failing to deliver the level of performance expected of him.
This season, the 33-year-old has upped his game considerably and is one of the few shining lights in the Hammers’ faltering side.
Arthur Masuaku
Left-back Arthur Masuaku has only started one league game for West Ham this season, but he deserves far more than that after his sublime crosses led to late goals against both Tottenham Hotspur and Swansea in recent weeks.
The defender may not be scoring the goals himself, but others are putting the finishing touches to his fine work and he should be praised for that. Even more so when you consider he has to make do with coming off the bench.
Pablo Zabaleta
Undoubtedly West Ham’s best performer so far this season, but rarely praised by neutrals, summer signing Pablo Zabaleta has been simply sensational, leading by example from his very first kick.
There are few bargains in an inflated transfer but the free signing of the Argentine will go down as one of West Ham’s best ever pieces of business.
