Tottenham Hotspur can secure qualification for the knockout stages of the Champions League with a win over Real Madrid this week, and that could be very good news for some of Spurs’ next generation.
After all, once a place in the last 16 is secured Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino may be more inclined to give some of his fringe players the chance to impress in the remaining games against Apoel Nicosia and Borussia Dortmund.
Here we take a look at three Tottenham players that could benefit if that is the case:
Juan Foyth
Centre-back Juan Foyth was always going to be used sparingly in his first season at Tottenham, but if they reach the knockout stages early he could be called upon after making the bench for the first three European games this season.
He is expected to make that four this evening, but he could get his first taste of Champions League action later this month if everything goes to plan.
Kyle Walker-Peters
The next breakthrough star at Tottenham, 20-year-old Kyle Walker-Peters has also been a regular on the bench in Europe and he has what it takes to star against Dortmund or Apoel if given the chance.
The versatile full-back has managed three appearances to date and more are expected to follow in due course.
Tashan Oakley-Boothe
Still only 17 but with a very bright future ahead of him, Tashan Oakley-Boothe could be the youngest Tottenham player to benefit if they get the better of Madrid.
After making his competitive debut in the EFL Cup earlier this season, the midfielder could get some minutes in Europe if there is a dead rubber at the end of the group stage.
