Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed two pieces of massive news in the last 24 hours.
Firstly, they announced that they are part of the controversial new Super League, joining 11 other clubs in this outrageous new proposal.
This morning, Tottenham followed that bombshell up with another announcement, this time confirming that Jose Mourinho has been sacked.
Tottenham’s form has been poor of late, and it’s clear that it wasn’t going to improve under Mourinho any time soon.
Players won’t want to dance on Mourinho’s grave, so to speak, but there rare some players who may now benefit from his exit…
Dele Alli
The easy suggestion here is Alli. The midfielder has started just one Premier League game this season, and that came on the opening weekend of the campaign. Mourinho wanted to offload Alli in January, but Daniel Levy didn’t. Mourinho has never really taken to Alli, but there is clearly a talented player there; let’s see if a new manager can revitalise his career.
Matt Doherty
Mourinho oversaw a summer deal to sign Doherty from Wolverhampton Wanderers, but it hasn’t really worked out for him. Doherty hasn’t played a single minute of Premier League football for more than a month now, and wasn’t even on the bench for Friday’s game at Everton. ESPN report that Mourinho was having doubts over Doherty’s future, and is exit may just give the Irishman a reprieve at Tottenham.
Harry Winks
Winks is another player exiled by Mourinho, arguably unfairly. The 25-year-old is a valuable homegrown talent, but he’s another player who hasn’t featured in the Premier League for more than a month. No action at all since the shocking Europa League defeat to Dinamo Zagreb, and The Mirror claim that Everton and Atletico Madrid are both keen on signing him. With Mourinho gone, Winks should now be given another chance.
