Ex-Tottenham Hotspur defender Jonathan Woodgate could be about to enter his first senior managerial role with Middlesbrough.

Ex-Tottenham Hotspur man Jonathan Woodgate could be about to land his first job with reports suggesting that Middlesbrough have handed him a senior managerial role.

BBC Sport have claimed that Woodgate is set to be the next manager of the Championship club, who parted ways with Tony Pulis last month. Could the former defender target a few players from his former team in Tottenham to help him for next season?

Here, we look at three Tottenham players Woodgate could target if he is made Middlesbrough manager as he will no doubt be tasked to push for promotion:

Cameron Carter-Vickers- The 21-year-old is an established center-back in the Championship now and if any team outside of the top tier can snap him up then they’ll have a player on their hands. It remains to be seen what style of play Woodgate likes to play, but if he wants to bring it out from the back or sit deep then Carter-Vickers can do both. From an individual standpoint, he enjoyed a successful season at Swansea last term.

Oliver Skipp – He made his debut for Tottenham during the recently concluded campaign and the 18-year-old impressed many with his performances in the middle of the park. But with Spurs seemingly looking to strengthen their squad for next season, Skipp maybe better off moving out on loan and the teenager could benefit from moving to the Championship.

Troy Parrott – For a player that is yet to make his senior debut for Tottenham, a lot has been made of Parrott and there’s no doubt that the 17-year-old has a bright future ahead of him. At his age, Woodgate would be showing serious bottle by moving for such a young player, but given his talents, his 19 goals in the younger age groups last season [transfermarkt], he would be a risk and perhaps a risk worth taking.

Championship play-off finalists Aston Villa and Derby County proved during the recently concluded campaign that signing loan players could do wonders for a team gunning for promotion.

It remains to be seen what budget Woodgate will be able to work with if he’s made Boro boss, but targeting teams like Tottenham for their highly-rated players might just be a smart move.
