Could one of these talented kids be Mauricio Pochettino’s next Tottenham Hotspur success story?

Tottenham Hotspur is the place to be for young English talent right now.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino has overseen the outstanding development of Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Harry Winks among others, and will continue to give youth a chance in North London.

Here are three kids who could be the next to break through into Tottenham’s first team…

Marcus Edwards

The tricky 18-year-old attacking midfielder is the youth prospect that Spurs supporters have been most excited about since Pochettino likened him to Lionel Messi in an interview with Sky Sports in September 2016.

Marcus Edwards of Tottenham Hotspur in action during the Premier League 2 match between Derby County and Tottenham Hotspur at Pride Park Stadium on October 27, 2017 in Derby, England.

A single senior appearance in the League Cup against Gillingham Town is all that Edwards has to his name so far, with injury and a lack of consistency at youth level having halted his development these past 12 months.

But there is no doubt that Edwards is capable of the spectacular; a creator and a goalscorer who runs at defenders, which is a dynamic that Tottenham’s attack is missing. He is not ready for regular first-team action yet, but would be a useful option on the bench at Wembley, where Spurs have been struggling to break down lower opposition.

Kazaiah Sterling

There are brighter talents than Sterling in the youth setup at Spurs, but the imbalance of Pochettino’s squad, with only Fernando Llorente to deputise for Harry Kane, means that the 18-year-old striker might be worth looking at.

Sterling has not been banging them in for Tottenham’s Under-23s, but five goals in 14 appearances this season is respectable and Tottenham fans would love to see another young striker in the squad now and again.

Kyle Walker-Peters

Having won the World Cup with England’s Under-20s last summer, and made an assured Premier League debut in the opening-day win over Newcastle United, there is no doubt that Walker-Peters is ready for his next challenge.

The versatile 20-year-old full-back needs to be exposed to more regular first-team football, but his pathway at Spurs is blocked on both sides. If the chance isn’t there for him at Spurs yet, the club need to find him a loan move.
