Tottenham Hotspur’s fringe men had a chance to step up against Liverpool.

Tottenham Hotspur were defeated by Liverpool in the EFL Cup last night at Anfield.

Daniel Sturridge scored twice in a 2-1 win for the Reds, with a Vincent Janssen penalty giving Spurs late hope.

Despite the close scoreline, it was not a great performance from Spurs, whose Premier League displays are of a higher standard.

Here is a look at three players who disappointed…

Georges-Kevin N’Koudou

Summer signing Georges-Kevin N’Koudou has been restricted to cameo roles since his arrival, and had hoped to make the most of a rare start last night.

Unfortunately it could not have gone much worse for him, slipping over in possession a la Steven Gerrard, which directly led to Daniel Sturridge scoring the opener.

There was plenty of time to make amends, but N’Koudou was unable to make an impact, and will have to do better to avoid the same fate as Clinton N’Jie.

Joshua Onomah

Onomah is a highly rated member of Tottenham’s academy, but has struggled in the first team and last night was no different.

He was particularly poor last night, looking out of his comfort zone and unable to contribute anything noteworthy to Tottenham’s attack.

Vincent Janssen

Dutch striker Vincent Janssen may have scored from the penalty spot, but that cannot mask that once again he offered little from open play.

He showed for Holland on international duty that he is capable of moments of brilliance, but Spurs are yet to see it, and his time is running out to make a telling impact before first choice striker Harry Kane returns from injury.
