One victory in four has left West Ham struggling in 17th, but what’s gone wrong?

Upton Park hangover
Any team moving from their home to a new stadium would be a difficult transition and it seems as though the West Ham United players are still coming to terms with playing at the London Stadium.
Last Saturday’s defeat was a shock given the fact they were leading 2-0 as they approached half time, however it’s a different surrounding for many including supporters so patience will be needed if they’re to have a successful season.
The Hammers seemed to have crumbled once Watford forced themselves back into the game, maybe it will take a while for the players to get to grips with the stadium as a whole but they need to get over the Upton Park hangover quick before it starts to become a normality of lacklustre performances.

Has Slaven Bilic strengthened the playing squad?
After a splendid campaign last time round which saw The Hammers nearly find their way into the Champions League places, many expected Slaven Bilic to improve the squad further although based on what they’ve bought this summer, it isn’t clear whether they have.
Players such as Havard Nordtveit, Alvaro Arbeloa, Edimilson Fernandes, Gokhan Tore and Jonathan Calleri have all came in and failed to improve the side further. Saturday’s loss to Watford saw nine players from last season start, Arthur Masuaku and Simone Zaza were the only new signings that started last weekend.
Players such as Manuel Lanzini and Dimitri Payet returned to the starting line up which improved the side however it seems as though the club have opted for quantity rather than quality.
There was no secrets that the club tried to find big name stars such as Alexandre Lacazette and Carlos Bacca but without Champions League football they failed to tempt either player to the club.
Problems at the back
If you’re languishing in 17th place you’ve obviously got issues at the back and it seems as though Slaven Bilic isn’t convinced either.
Sam Byram has failed to convince since coming into the side although with more regular games he could develop into a very good right back, while the pairing of James Collins and Winston Reid were far from convincing against Watford, with many West Ham supporters wanting Angelo Ogbonna to be given a chance after impressing last term.
If you aren’t able to win, make sure you’re set up to not lose and although it may be a step back for Bilic and The Hammers, it could lead them to climb the table and find the form from last term.
