Three things learned as Leeds 21’s draw: Carole shines, ominous for Klich?

Leeds Under-21’s drew 2-2 in a topsy-turvy clash against Norwich City in Monday’s Premier League 2 clash – and here are three things we learned from the draw, including, what next for Mateusz Klich:

Carole could be the long-term answer

The 18-year-old is naturally a winger, but he looked excellent at left-back on Monday afternoon. Plenty of vigour, plenty of fight and linked up brilliantly with Crysencio Summerville on the left flank for Michael Skubala’s side.

Leeds have not had a permanent left-back since Charlie Taylor left for Burnley. Barry Douglas, Gjanni Alioski, Junior Firpo have since been options but none have really been a permanent fixture.

If the problem remains in years to come, perhaps, Carole could break into the senior side and make that position his own. Certainly, if anything Monday is to go by, there is certainly the potential for that to happen.

Forshaw looking more robust

Forshaw played with his chest out during the first 45 minutes of the game. His passing was excellent, his recycling of the ball was a level above the rest. But after such a long spell of injuries, there is always concern in a challenge.

During his first-half outing, the ex-Middlesbrough man was taken out inadvertently by two of his teammates. Firstly, Cody Drameh and then slightly more worryingly, Leo Hjelde. But Forshaw got up both times and looked fine.

While he was taken off at half-time, it was a pre-planned substitute and Forshaw got more minutes under his belt. Certainly, he is looking more robust and becoming more game ready than he has ever been, after those two years out.

An ominous sign for Klich?

With Forshaw coming off after 45 minutes, though, it is clear that 32-year-old Klich is seen as further down the pecking order. Plenty of talk has been had regarding his future at Elland Road, with the World Cup a few months away.

Klich has been linked away as he hopes to get regular game time. He has come off the bench twice, against Wolves and Southampton. Following his outing against Wolves, Klich held talks with Jesse Marsch and was told he is staying.

But to be given an entire 90 minutes with the 21’s, although good for match fitness, it is a sign. Perhaps, he is not as important to the first team as is the likes of those not included, or Forshaw. Three weeks are left in the window.
