Knowing now how important it is to have a decent back up for Harry Kane, Tottenham Hotspur will likely be on the hunt for a new striker this summer.
Tottenham’s Harry Kane goes off injured
After two major injuries to star striker Harry Kane this season, Tottenham Hotspur have been forced to learn just how important it is to have a proper back-up striker available; especially when playing a system that revolves around the work of the most forward player.
After signing Dutch forward Vincent Janssen in the summer from AZ Alkmaar, Mauricio Pochettino thought he had secured just the man to provide Kane with competition. But things haven’t worked out for the forward, and Spurs fans will be hoping to see a new forward arrive at White Hart Lane this summer.
With this in mind, HITC Sport have picked their top three options for Tottenham Hotspur in the summer, selecting three striker targets. But do you agree with our choices? Who have we missed out? Before you let us know, here’s a look at our picks…
1. Moussa Dembele (Celtic)
Celtic’s Moussa Dembele
The Celtic forward has been in fine form since leaving Fulham for the Glasgow giants in the summer, scoring 32 goals in 45 appearances so far this season. Strong, pacy, and able to hit the target from almost anywhere, Dembele is likely to be much sought after in the summer, and Spurs could well face a lot of competition, should they wish to pursue his signature. Able to play as a number nine or in the No.10 role in behind the striker, Dembele could offer plenty to Tottenham Hotspur.
2. Andrea Belotti (Torino)
Andrea Belotti in action for Torino
The Italian striker has exploded onto the scene in Serie A this season, and is being touted as one of the world’s best striker talents, along with Tottenham’s Harry Kane. Brilliant in the air, powerful and deadly in front of goal, Belotti has scored 36 goals in 63 games for Torino, since joining the side from Palermo. There’s no doubt Belotti would bring goals to this Spurs side, but would he happy playing second-fiddle to Kane? Or could Pochettino change the formation to suit both strikers?
3. Andre Gray (Burnley)
Burnley’s Andre Gray
After an excellent season at Mark Warburton’s Brentford, Andre Gray shocked many when signing for Burnley last season in a big money move. Gray quickly proved just what all the fuss was about, firing Sean Dyche’s side to promotion. Now carving up defences in the Premier League with his pace and power, Andre Gray has scored an impressive nine goals so far this season, and could potentially score even more if put in a side with the likes of Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli and Hueng-Min Son. Potentially open to playing second-fiddle to Harry Kane, might Andre Gray be Tottenham’s most realistic and cheapest option?
