Southampton have three players in the final year of their current contract, so who will stay and who will go?
Three Southampton players are now in the final year of their current contract, so who is likely to be handed an extension and who looks set for the exit in less than 12 months?
Artur Boruc, Jack Cork and Maya Yoshida are all in the final year of their current deal, and with players able to discuss pre-contract agreements from January, the next four months will be vital for those wishing to stay, and those the club has every intention of keeping.
Following the arrival of Fraser Forster at St Mary’s, the future of Artur Boruc looks a little less clear. The Polish stopper is unlikely to get much game-time if the England international remains fit and Boruc will know he is fighting not just for a starting-spot but for his future.
He is highly likely to move on in due course, with other top-flight clubs surely willing to take a punt on the 34-year-old.
As for Cork, the 25-year-old was linked with a summer switch to Crystal Palace, but Southampton are reportedly happy for the midfielder’s current contract to run down. That is not to say they will not offer him a new deal, and having rejected an alleged approach from Crystal Palace the Saints could well make their move regarding Cork in the coming months.
Much of course will depend on how much he impresses new boss Ronald Koeman in that time; and the same can be said of Yoshida, who has made three appearances for Southampton already this season and could play his way to a new deal.
Likely to stay: Yoshida, Cork
Likely to leave: Boruc
