Sheffield United’s blistering start to the new season is already attracting unwanted glances.
On Friday, the Sun reported that Tottenham Hotspur have put United midfielder David Brooks ‘high on their wanted list’, after previous interest from Liverpool, Everton and a couple of others.
But Brooks may not be the only Blades talent receiving interest by the time January rolls around, with several of his teammates at the top of their games.
HITC Sport has picked out another three who are likely to have caught the eye.
Jack O’Connell
Left-side centre-halves are something of a delicacy, and good ones therefore extremely desirable. As a member of the Championship’s third best defence, O’Connell certainly falls into that category. And at 23 years of age, the Liverpudlian could develop into a real asset for the Blades. However, they may wish to look into his contract situation soon – it expires in 2019 – ensuring they are strongly positioned should those suitors arrive.
Enda Stevens
An unsung member of Sheffield United’s side, the Irish wing-back has slotted seamlessly into Championship life despite taking a slightly bigger leap than most of his teammates. Stevens has missed just one of the Blades’ league matches so far, and provided more assists [four] than all but one second tier defender. He is under contract for another two and a half years at Bramall Lane, which should leave the ball in United’s court if any interest materialises.
John Fleck
Arguably United’s most influential player, as evidenced during their recent defeat to Queens Park Rangers in his absence, he is perhaps their most secure too, having signed a new four-year deal this autumn. Should Fleck continue his recent form, however, that may not deter others from trying to prise away the former Glasgow Rangers prospect, who was one regarded as the next Wayne Rooney.
