The Rangers man is being linked with a move away from Ibrox, with Sunderland among those said to be keen.
Rangers’ James Tavernier is wanted by clubs south of the border, according to the Daily Mail. Sunderland and Reading are both said to be chasing the Ibrox right-back, whose sale Rangers are allegedly open to.
But with Lee Hodson Rangers’ only other specialist option in Tavernier’s position, one suspects they would want to sign a replacement in the event of his departure.
Here’s three they could target…
Billy Jones [Sunderland] – A new right-back could spell the end for Jones at Sunderland, where his contract expires in six months’ time, and Rangers could take advantage. The 30-year-old, who has six years’ Premier League experience, may be open to a fresh challenge at Ibrox.
Eric Lichaj [Nottingham Forest] – Another who’s out of contract next summer, despite recently winning back his place in Mark Warburton’s Forest team. Lichaj, who has 14 caps for the United States, was expected to sign a new deal in December, but has so far failed to do so.
Chris Solly [Charlton Athletic] – The 26-year-old was Murty’s understudy during the Ibrox boss’s brief time at Charlton, and has gone on to play 250 times for the Addicks, who are struggling to get out of League One. A January approach from a club of Rangers’ stature could convince Solly to up sticks.
