After the largely expected departure of Paul Trollope, Cardiff City have moved quickly to appoint a new manager. Love him or loathe him, Neil Warnock is a divisive character in the game of football, renowned for his no-nonsense approach and his ability to get results out of the most underachieving group. Here are three reasons why Cardiff City have picked the perfect candidate.

Instilling belief
Like no other manager in the game, Neil Warnock has a unique talent for instilling an atmosphere of belief and perseverance into his dressing rooms. Many of us have seen the short documentary about him, titled ‘Warnock’, and witnessed first hand the motivational prowess Mr Warnock holds. Cardiff City, who just a few years ago would have been considered one of the biggest teams in the Championship, have been listing their way down the league. An injection of belief is just what they need right now.

Tightening up at the back
If you think about a Neil Warnock side, the first thing that comes to your mind is of a solid defence. Despite leaking goals for fun, Neil Warnock managing to stop the goal-rot at Rotherham United (his previous job in management) and saved them from a relegation the Millers looked destined for. Cardiff City, who have a number of excellent but under-performing defenders such as Bruno Ecuele Manga and Sean Morrison, could benefit greatly from Warnock’s ability to organise a defence.

Experience
With a managerial career spanning over 35 years, there’s no other manager with more experience at Championship level than Neil Warnock. Managing over 15 clubs in his career, and some more than once, Warnock has seen it all. Be it fighting relegation with Rotherham United, or fighting for promotion with the likes of Crystal Palace and QPR, Warnock undoubtedly has, in his managerial arsenal, the skills needed to not only stop Cardiff’s slide down the league, but also those needed to reignite this sleeping giant, hopefully propelling them back towards the Premier League.
