Romelu Lukaku’s goal scoring free-kick against Crystal Palace wasn’t enough to secure a victory for the Blues, but it was enough to get people talking once again about the Belgium striker’s future on Merseyside.

Speaking to BT Sport on the weekend, Owen Hargreaves claimed that Lukaku will leave Everton in the summer for a price ranging between £70-£80 million.

The former Manchester United player could be right, but judging by the striker’s performances for the Blues, the 23-year-old is nowhere worth £80 million just yet.

Lukaku is inconsistent

Without Lukaku, Everton would be in trouble. That said, the Belgium striker is also one of the Toffees’ most inconsistent players. Lukaku was without a goal for Everton since March before a hat-trick against Sunderland in September.

Against Bournemouth, Lukaku was a shadow of his hat-trick performance at the Stadium of Light. The striker’s finishing touches were poor while he also gave the ball away. On his day, Lukaku is unstoppable. On a bad day, Lukaku looks nowhere near the price tag of £80m.

His value didn’t reach that price last season despite impressive performances

Despite scoring 25 goals last season and having a mixed Euro 2016, the striker’s worth was never in the region of Hargreaves’ price tag.

Lukaku would have to excel this season to attract clubs to pay that sort of money for the unreliable star. There was talk all summer about the possibility of Lukaku leaving Goodison, in the end no big clubs came in and made an offer.

Lukaku is not the finishing product

At 23, Lukaku is a young talent who can only get better. Most people’s perception of Lukaku is that he is a great world-class striker. But those who follow the Belgium international and look at him closely will know that he is a great goal scorer with the potential to be world-class, but as of yet he is not a great player.
