Slaven Bilic’s admission that he expected to be fired by West Ham was a sign of defeatism, a man who was near to giving up.
David Moyes coming in injects fresh energy to the club, and he has a big point to prove.
Moyes’ reputation is at an all time low after his relegation with Sunderland and he can salvage it at West Ham.
West Ham’s players need a pick-me-up too and Moyes has the necessary experience to help them out and learn from his own mistakes.
Ideal Timing
Bringing Moyes in now before the international break is ideal as it gives him time on the training ground to work with the players and get familiar with the set up before the Premier League games resume.
He can work solely on coaching and matches without the distraction of a transfer window for the next six weeks, allowing him to make better and wiser judgements in January instead of making snap decisions.
West Ham also avoid criticism for failing to act too late as while they sit 18th, the team is just six points off the top 10.
Transfer funds
David Moyes had very little to work with at Sunderland in January last year and he was forced into making desperation moves moves for Bryan Oviedo, Darron Gibson and Joleon Lescott.
West Ham might not have a Manchester City type budget, but Moyes will have more at his disposal than last January and unlike at Sunderland, his team should improve in the second half of the season instead of stagnating.
Money was there in the summer to sign top talent Javier Hernandez and Moyes’ reputation combined with West Ham’s pull should be enough to bring in a handful of quality additions.
