Heurelho Gomes has come under fire for his performances of late.

Heurelho Gomes has always been prone to the odd howler but he’s produced a number of them this season, mostly recent against Southampton when he was at fault for the last two goals in a 4-3 defeat.

Between this and the fact he’s now 36, Watford may well feel it’s time to replace him and if they feel the right man to do so isn’t current number two Costel Pantilimon, here are three ideal candidates to do so.

Jordan Pickford

Sunderland look very likely to be relegated and are already short of money so it stands to reason that they would sell Pickford, their most valuable player.

He’s proven himself to be an above average Premier League goalie this season, despite being only 23, and would presumably be keen on staying in the division to boost his England chances.

In signing Pickford, Watford would improve and get much younger in the position, so this one certainly makes sense.

Alban Lafont

The Hornets have been linked with a move for Lafont by various news outlets, including talkSPORT, but wouldn’t be short of competition as the 18-year-old has caught the eye with his exploits for Toulouse.

Lafont would be expensive and you would have to question how someone so young would fare with the demands – both physically and emotionally – of a move to English football but his potential is enormous.

Adrian

Having been ousted as West Ham’s number one this season, Adrian may well be on the lookout for a move to revive his career and international aspirations.

Despite the indifferent form that allowed Darren Dandolph to usurp him, most would agree that Adrian would be an upgrade on Gomes and he would likely cost considerably less than the other two options on this list.
