Rangers have been superb this season, and may now be considered favourites to win the Scottish Premiership title this term.

Steven Gerrard’s men sit top of the table and hold a nine point gap over Celtic at the top, meaning the Gers may look for January additions to try and get them over the line.

Rangers can still look for pre-contract agreements though, and have shown a willingness to strike those January deals in the past for the likes of Jordan Jones and Josh Windass, whilst Glen Kamara also signed a pre-contract agreement before Rangers pulled off an immediate deal.

With that in mind, here are three players Rangers could sign for absolutely nothing on pre-contract agreements come January…

Daniel Johnson

Rangers were strongly linked with Johnson over the summer, and Preston haven’t yet been able to convince him to stay. The Daily Record noted Rangers’ summer interest, and whilst Bongani Zungu has now been brought in on loan, Johnson offers a more creative, goalscoring threat in the final third – and after that summer interest, a pre-contract deal for the 28-year-old wouldn’t be a shock.

John Lundstram

Another midfielder linked with Rangers was Sheffield United ace Lundstram, who has told the Blades that he is leaving for free in 2021. A hard-working and energetic box-to-box midfielder, Lundstram has Premier League experience under his belt and is a good age at 26. Lundstram was born in Liverpool and grew up supporting the Reds, so playing for Gerrard would surely be appealing to him if Rangers come calling in January.

Jacob Murphy

The Chronicle reported at the end of October that Gerrard remains keen on Newcastle winger Murphy, having missed out on a summer deal. The 25-year-old is currently playing at right wing back for the Magpies, but is out of contract at the end of the season and could be signed for absolutely nothing. With Brandon Barker and Jordan Jones hit and miss, another right-sided winger should be a priority – and Murphy certainly fits the bill.
