Three Rangers players who should hope Murty does not become permanent manager

Glasgow Rangers are looking for a new boss following Pedro Caixinha’s dismissal.

Rangers’ caretaker manager Graeme Murty has done a fine job since Pedro Caixinha’s exit last month, but it remains to be seen if the 42-year-old will be given the role on a permanent basis.

Considering recent results he would be well worth a shot, and some of Rangers’ previously overlooked players would surely love Murty to be given the chance to impress for the rest of this season and possibly beyond.

However, there will also be some Gers players whose Ibrox future could be uncertain if that decision is made and here we take a look at three most at risk:

Bruno Alves

From regular starter to bench-warmer, Portuguese international Bruno Alves missed the recent game against Hearts through suspension and was only named among the substitutes for the next game against Partick Thistle.

With Danny Wilson and Ross McCrorie impressing at the back for Rangers, Alves may struggle for regular game time; something that seemed inconceivable when he first arrived at Ibrox.

Fabio Cardoso

It could be even worse for Fabio Cardoso, who flattered to deceive prior to his injury and may have been relegated to fourth choice centre-back in his absence.

If Murty remains in charge of Rangers and McCrorie and Wilson continue to impress, do not be surprise if Cardoso is ultimately shipped out.

Eduardo Herrera

If a new man arrives at Rangers, summer signing Eduardo Herrera will have another chance to impress, but if Murty remains the Mexican could struggle to be anything more than a bit-part player.

Three minutes against Hearts and a role as an unused substitute against Partick suggests the caretaker Rangers boss does not see a major role at Ibrox for Herrera, and that is no surprise given his performances earlier in the campaign.
