Rangers defender James Tavernier has signed a new contract at Ibrox.

Rangers confirmed that defender James Tavernier had put pen to paper on a new three-and-a-half-year contract at Ibrox after starring from the right side of defence under Graeme Murty.

The 27-year-old more than deserved his new deal after an excellent string of performances that have seen him produce two goals and two assists in his last four Scottish Premiership outings.

This season, he has six goals and eight assists as well as helping the Gers keep 10 clean sheets. However, the former Newcastle United right-back should not be the only Rangers first-teamer to be given a new deal.

Here are three other Rangers stars more than deserving of a new contract…

Wes Foderingham

Before the beginning of the 2017-18 campaign, there had been calls for Pedro Caixinha to sign a replacement as the former Swindon Town stopper’s inconsistency was a matter of concern to Ibrox fans.

But now, the 27-year-old has come on leaps and bounds, producing nine clean sheets in 29 games and conceding only 31 goals. He has also become a source of leadership and is certainly deserving of a new deal.

Jason Holt

He still has his critics, but the 24-year-old midfielder is a key component of Murty’s side – so much so that he has captained the Gers in four of his last five appearances.

The uncapped Scotsman works hard and embodies the spirit and desire of the Ibrox faithful. He has also added an attacking threat to his game this season, becoming somewhat of an assist machine by laying on seven goals.

He should be given a new deal, without a doubt.

Josh Windass

It is plain for all to see that the 24-year-old’s personality and ego is a strong one. Criticised by fans for his celebration against Partick Thistle, Windass has shown the kind of aggression and feisty attitude required to succeed at Ibrox.

12 goals and eight assists in 30 league and cup outings just shows how far the former Accrington Stanley ace has come. With interest from down south arising in January and more likely to come about this summer, a new deal is a necessity.
