Leeds United need a new striker in January. Here are three players they could pursue.

Leeds United are hopeful top scorer Chris Wood will return from injury this weekend, but his recent hamstring strain has highlighted how much they need to sign an alternative.

Summer signing Marcus Antonsson has scored only one league goal, and has not started a Championship match since September.

A January signing looks to be a necessity, with West Ham youngster Ashley Fletcher among those linked, by The Sun, as an option.

Here are three more possibilities Leeds could pursue, from three different divisions…

Premier League – Jordan Rhodes

Jordan Rhodes is a proven Championship goalscorer, netting on a regular basis for Huddersfield and Blackburn before helping Middlesbrough win promotion last year.

This season in the Premier League, Rhodes has been a forgotten figure, and a Championship switch looks likely.

Sheffield Wednesday head the queue, rated at Evens to sign Rhodes with SkyBet while Leeds are outsiders at 14/1, but imminent investment from businessman Andrea Radrizzani could see the Whites become more aggressive in the transfer market.

Championship – Scott Hogan

Brentford ace Hogan is one of the few players to outscore Chris Wood this season, with 13 league goals to Wood’s 11.

The 24-year-old’s form has seen him become a hot commodity and Get West London report it is a case of when not if the striker will be sold.

Premier League sides are keen along with Championship side Aston Villa, report the Birmingham Mail, and if Leeds have the money then they too should enter the race to sign a player who could be the difference between promotion and failure.

League One – Matt Taylor

Look down the divisions, and a just as prolific and far cheaper option emerges as a standout candidate, Bristol Rovers strker Matt Taylor.

After netting 27 goals in League Two last season, Taylor has scored 13 times in 19 games in League One, attracting recent interest from Glasgow Rangers, The Mirror reported.
