HITC Sport takes a look at three players from Scotland which Aston Villa should target this summer, including a Celtic midfielder and Rangers youngster.
Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce
With the end of the season in sight, Aston Villa fans will be looking forward to bringing what has been a fairly miserable Championship campaign to an end. After doing plenty of business over the summer, many thought the Villans would be fighting for promotion under Champions League winning boss, Roberto Di Matteo.
However, the Villans have not enjoyed life in the Championship, and it has been only recently that new boss Steve Bruce has managed to start turning what looked like a sinking ship back around. After improving the squad in January, the Villans now look to be in a much better place.
And now, with potential summer targets likely already being put together, HITC Sport takes a look at three players currently in Scotland, who might be a good and cheap option for Aston Villa in the summer.
1. Jason Cummings – Hibernian
Hibernian’s Jason Cummings shoots at goal against Rangers
The 21-year-old striker has an outstanding scoring record at Hibernian, bagging 68 goals in 143 appearances since making his debut for the Hibees in 2013. An outstanding goalscorer in Scotland, quite why Jason Cummings hasn’t already been snapped up by a Championship club, or the likes of Celtic or Rangers, has been somewhat of a surprise. However, with that many goals to his name, Cummings is sure to start attracting serious attention soon. Should Aston Villa get themselves to the front of the queue before it’s too late?
2. Stuart Armstrong – Celtic

The Scottish central midfielder was outstanding after coming on against Slovenia in Scotland’s recent World Cup qualifier, and has had a sensational season at Celtic Park this season. Excellent with the ball at his feet, strong, fast and able to chip in with goals and assists, Stuart Armstrong would offer plenty to any side in the Championship, or arguably in the Premier League. However, as one of Celtic’s main men, a bid for Armstrong would need to be irresistible, and Aston Villa might be one of the only club’s in the Championship who could afford him.
3. Josh Windass – Rangers

The former Accrington Stanley midfielder, and son of Hull City legend Dean Windass, has been unlucky with injuries this season. However, the attacker remains a top young talent at Ibrox, and has shown glimpses this season of just how good he could be in the future. Able to play as a No.10 or as a striker, Josh Windass is a powerful forward with pace to burn and a lot of skill with the ball at his feet. Will Steve Bruce’s record for developing promising English youngsters put him at the front of the que for Windass’ signature? Rangers fans will be hoping not!
