Newcastle United may want to consider turning to the Scottish Premiership for potential transfer targets this summer.

Newcastle United probably have a better knowledge of the Scottish game than most of the clubs in England, having sent a number of youngsters north of the border to get some first-team experience in recent years.

But perhaps the Magpies should consider targeting some of the stars within the Scottish Premiership when it comes to deciding upon transfer targets this summer.

With that in mind, here are three players Newcastle should target who are currently plying their trade in Scotland…

Stuart Armstrong (Celtic)

Stuart Armstrong has been sensational for Celtic this season. The central midfielder has not only been excellent in the middle of the park, but he has also been more than capable of contributing goals, scoring 11 in the league. He also boasts plenty of versatility, but it may be difficult to push through a deal given his current importance to Brendan Rodgers’ side.

Ali Crawford (Hamilton)

Ali Crawford is arguably Hamilton’s best player, and another who has excelled in the middle of the park this year. He has scored seven times, and contributed four assists and could perhaps work as something of a wildcard player for Newcastle, due to his trickery and skill on the ball.

Barrie McKay (Rangers)

Barrie McKay may frustrate Rangers fans quite often, but there is no denying that he is an extremely talented winger who has the potential to be a very special player. On his day, he is almost impossible to play against, and playing alongside some better players at St James’ Park may help bring the best out of him.

With Christian Atsu only on loan, there is surely a void to fill on the wing.
