HITC Sport takes a look at three players from League One which Aston Villa could target, including a Leeds United target and former Rangers midfielder.
General view before the game – Villa Park
For many Aston Villa fans, the end of the season can not come quickly enough, as they look to bring to an end what has been a miserable season, all in all. Many of the Villa faithful will be looking forward to the summer, as the club looks again to strengthen in order to push for promotion back to the Premier League next season.
With potential targets likely already being drawn, HITC Sport takes a look at three players from England’s League One, who might well be a good and cheap option for Aston Villa in the summer.
1. Ollie Watkins – Exeter City

The Exeter City youngster has been on fire this season in League One, and has been most recently linked with a move to Championship side Leeds United by The Sun (12/03 page 61). Strong, powerful and able to play in a number of positions, be it up-front as a striker, out on the wing or as an attacking midfielder; Ollie Watkins is a tremendous young talent, and his signature will likely be hotly contested this summer.
2. Josh Morris – Scunthorpe United
Josh Morris celebrates scoring the first goal for Scunthorpe United
Josh Morris has been one of the standout performers in League One this season, dominating the left-hand side for Scunthorpe United and playing a major part in his side’s push for promotion. Scoring 19 goals and making 11 assists, Josh Morris has been vital to Scunthorpe’s success, and many Blackburn Rovers fans will likely be kicking themselves that the club let him go back in 2015. After having the season of his life, Aston Villa might well want to keep tabs on Morris.
3. John Fleck – Sheffield United
Former Coventry City midfielder John Fleck (R)
The 25-year-old former Rangers midfielder has been outstanding for Sheffield United this season, and along with Josh Morris, has been shortlisted for the League One Player of the Year award. A tough-tackling centre-mid, Fleck has been instrumental in Sheffield United’s domination of League One this season, and has looked like a really smart signing after Chris Wilder picked him up from Coventry City in the summer. With Aston Villa needing a little more bite in their midfield, could John Fleck be the perfect solution?
