The Manchester United left back could be the perfect target for teams like Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

Despite being touted at one point as one of the most exciting young English left-backs in the Premier League, Manchester United defender Luke Shaw appears to have fallen heavily out of favour. Jose Mourinho was recently reported by the BBC to have questioned the defender’s commitment to the club, and it looks likely that the left-back will now be offloaded in the summer.

With this in mind, HITC Sport has taken a look at three potential destinations for the left-back next season, as he looks to secure himself a place back in the England set-up. Despite things not working out under Jose Mourinho, Luke Shaw is still widely considered to be one of the most talented young full-backs in the top flight, and his signature could fetch a number of competitors.

1. Tottenham Hotspur

The Sun have recently reported that Luke Shaw would be keen on a move to link up with his former manager, as the left-back enjoyed some of his best spells under the Argentinian boss at Southampton. Tottenham Hotspur may also be in danger of losing Danny Rose this season, who is said to have been catching the eye of Premier League moneybags, Manchester City. Should Rose depart White Hart Lane, would Tottenham Hotspur fans feel OK with Luke Shaw coming in to replace him?

2. Newcastle United

With Premier League football looking very likely for Newcastle United next season, manager Rafa Benitez is likely already identifying potential summer targets. With the left-back spot arguably being one that needs to be reinforced, Benitez may be monitoring Luke Shaw’s situation with interest. Offering him the chance to play in front of huge crowds every week, as he will have gotten used to at Old Trafford, the pull of the sheer size of Newcastle United might be enough to convince the Manchester United defender to swap a red shirt for a black and white one.

3. Manchester City

With a left-back being one of the positions they clearly need to strengthen in the summer, could Manchester United do the unthinkable and sell to one of their biggest rivals? Manchester City are one of the only clubs in England who could offer Shaw bigger wages and offer United the money they are likely to want for the defender, but could Mourinho really face the prospect of selling a player to Pep Guardiola? The two have been bitter rivals since the days at Barcelona and Real Madrid, and that rivalry has already spilled over into their new clubs.
