Tottenham Hotspur may be active this January but with a budget of only £35m they will have to operate shrewdly.

According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur have a budget of £35m for the January transfer window.

That is unlikely to be enough to get Spurs the likes of Wilfried Zaha from Crystal Palace or Riyad Mahrez from Leicester City, but there are a number of targets who are attainable within Tottenham’s New Year restraints.

Here are three players who Spurs could get for £35m or under…

Ross Barkley

Young, talented and English, the Everton midfielder may have commanded a £50m price tag in this market were it not for the fact that his contract at Goodison Park expires at the end of the season, as Sky Sports reports.

According to The Telegraph, Spurs are ready to make their move for the 24-year-old in January after putting their summer interest on hold following Barkley’s hamstring injury, although they may face competition from Chelsea.

Everton may have to settle for £20m, and that would be great value for Mauricio Pochettino as he aims to mould Barkley into a long-term replacement for Mousa Dembele, whose injuries are beginning to catch up with him.

Ryan Sessegnon

Tottenham appear to have a strong interest in Sessegnon regardless of the future of Danny Rose, who The Mirror reported was expected to join Manchester United for £50m this month, before he suffered a fresh knee injury.

The 17-year-old Fulham sensation is putting together some remarkable numbers in the Championship, with seven goals in 26 appearances this season, and is a no-brainer investment at The Mirror’s quoted price of £20m.

Spurs could always loan Sessegnon back to Fulham until the summer, when Rose’s future will surely be resolved one way or the other, because they don’t want to miss out on the youngster while he remains in their price range.

Moussa Dembele

Spurs are still desperately short of striking cover for the record-breaking Harry Kane, but will have difficulty attracting a player who must be content to play second fiddle and yet is good enough to make an impact when called upon.

Celtic striker Moussa Dembele seems to fit that bill perfectly, as he is still young enough not to expect regular football at a top club, and yet has proven that he knows where the net is with 40 goals in 70 games for the Bhoys.

Brighton & Hove Albion have already tested the water with an £18m bid, according to The Guardian, and Spurs may not have to go that much higher to finally land a centre-forward who can deputise for, or even partner, Kane.
