Tottenham Hotspur fans may be hoping for some January additions, but fringe players may need to leave to make that happen.
With that in mind, here are three players who should view the January window as the ideal chance to leave Tottenham and establish themselves elsewhere…
Paulo Gazzaniga
A favourite of Mauricio Pochettino having worked together at Southampton, Gazzaniga is now out of favour under Jose Mourinho. He’s third-choice goalkeeper behind Joe Hart, and simply needs to go. Everton wanted him back in October, but that avenue has closed with Robin Olsen’s arrival, but the Argentinian is certainly capable of challenging for Premier League playing time elsewhere – which is why third-choice at Spurs just isn’t good enough.
Davinson Sanchez
Sanchez is another player who has fallen down Mourinho’s pecking order. Signed for £42million from Ajax in 2017, Sanchez started his Tottenham career well but has somewhat stalled of late, even finding himself behind Joe Rodon. The Colombian isn’t a lost cause, but he needs playing time and belief from a manager to get back on track; he just isn’t going to get that with Tottenham right now, so moving on in January could be ideal with AC Milan keen.

Dele Alli
The story of Alli’s lack of football this season is well-told at this point, and he wasn’t even on the bench against Leicester City last weekend. The 24-year-old has started just one Premier League game this season, and that came on the opening day of the season. It’s becoming clear that Alli needs to leave in order to kickstart his career, whether that comes on loan until the end of the season or permanently. Getting back into the England squad seems like a faded dream right now, but Alli needs to leave Tottenham if he’s to stand any chance of catching Gareth Southgate’s eye.
