HITC Sport looks at three players who Glasgow Rangers should get rid of from Ibrox in January.

It’s been a season of turmoil at Ibrox so far but Rangers fans will be hoping for January additions nonetheless.

First, though, Director of Football Mark Allan might have to shift a few players off the books in order to sign them.

Here, HITC Sport looks at three players who Rangers should sell in January.

Joe Dodoo

By virtue of the fact that Joe Dodoo is pretty much an unused substitute for Charlton Athletic in League One every single week, you could argue that his chances of making it at Rangers are looking extremely slim.

The 22-year-old striker will return from his loan in January, but the Gers don’t need him. Well, they probably need a striker, but five goals in 25 games last season means that Dodoo isn’t it and Allan should make it so the former Leicester City talent – signed by Mark Warburton 18 months ago – has barely any time to unpack in Glasgow before Allan finds him a new, permanent club. He has scored once in five League One appearances for the Addicks, despite being named in the matchday squad 16 times.

Carlos Pena

Rangers spent £2.7 million on the Mexico international and it hasn’t worked. Pena has been taking one step forward and two steps back for the past four months and it’s time that Allan offers him to various Mexican clubs. They won’t recoup their entire fee, but the 27-year-old remains a well thought-of player in his homeland and there should be enough interest in the former Leon and Guadalajara attacker to spark something of a bidding war.

In that event, maybe the Gers will get a large chunk of their transfer fee back. Pena isn’t a bad footballer, but he isn’t suited to life in Glasgow, constantly alternating between progression and stagnation when ideally he should only be getting better and better.

Kenny Miller

The 37-year-old has been a fantastic servant to Rangers and played a huge role in helping them win promotion back to the Scottish Premiership under Warburton in 2016, but keeping him around based on sentiment isn’t a great idea and this season has proved that he is a declining force in Scottish top-flight football.

This is where the club simply has to be ruthless and either sell him to another Scottish side in the Championship maybe or, failing that, simply terminate his contract and replace him in the squad with a better, younger striker. Miller turns 38 just before Christmas and, if we’re honest, his last game for Rangers should’ve come last season.
