These players need to impress for Tottenham Hotspur this season.

The main reason for Tottenham Hotspur’s lack of incoming players in the transfer window is undoubtedly the strength of their first-team. When a new player joins a club, it is hard to sell them a dream which mostly revolves around sitting on the substitutes’ bench.

The strength of the first-team is evident in their steady rise up the Premier League table. However, with the rise, the standards have increased as well, and come the end of the season if these following players do not live up to their perceived potential there is a high probability of them being ushered out through the back door.

Tottenham's Vincent Janssen

It is safe to say that Janssen has not lived up to the billing when he made the move to White Hart Lane. His return of 2 league goals in 27 appearances rather hints at a move made too soon.

However, given he is just 23-years-old, manager Mauricio Pochettino might yet be patient with the Dutch striker. But, one more season of wasted opportunities and Daniel Levy would have to start looking for potential replacements.

News of Tottenham’s interest in Rihad Mahrez (according to the Evening Standard) is indeed quite scary for the Argentinian. Expected to return in September, the 25-year-old quickly needs to find his best form if he wants to play in competitions which aren’t the League Cup or the FA Cup.

Given the competition against him for a place on the wings, if he is indeed unable to command a starting position, Pochettino will likely give up the former Roma star. Tick tock, tick tock.

Tottenham's Kieran Trippier is substituted after sustaining an injury

#1 Kieran Trippier

Being on the same team as England’s first choice right-back is not the best of scenarios, as the player found out last season as he made just 6 starts in the Premier League. With Walker walking away to pastures new, and Trippier subsequently signing a new contract he is undoubtedly going to get the opportunity to become the first choice right-back at Spurs.

A reminder, the only season he made more than six Premier League starts was for a relegated Burnley three seasons ago. Is he good enough to be the first choice right-back for a team challenging for the Premier League? Only time will tell. But if he doesn’t, Pochettino will undoubtedly ask Mr Levy to reach into those deep pockets.
