West Ham are close to selling Grady Diangana, with Sky Sports reporting he is set for a medical at West Brom.

The prospect of selling a promising academy product hasn’t gone down well with West Ham fans, and understandably so.

Relations have been strained for years between the fans and West Ham’s owners, and this proposed deal hasn’t done anything to improve that.

The only way the perception of this deal can be changed is if the incoming money is invested wisely on areas of the team which need it.

That’s alongside the funds raised from the sales of Albian Ajeti and Jordan Hugill.

We’ve picked at three players West Ham could spend the Diangana money on, as a deal the Telegraph claim will be worth up to £18 million nears its conclusion.

  2. Arsenal (A)

  3. Wolves (H)

    September 26

  4. Leicester (A)

    October 3

  5. Tottenham (A)

  6. Manchester City (H)

Ollie Watkins

There was talk of a an £18 million release clause in Watkins’ Brentford contract.

As per the Birmingham Mail, that’s not the case and the asking price is more like £25 million.

Even so, if the Diangana cash and the funds for the sale of strikers Hugill and Ajeti went on Watkins, it would be money well spent if he became the reliable goalscorer West Ham need.

John Stones

Stones worked under David Moyes briefly at Everton and finds himself out of favour at Manchester City.

West Ham might not be able to attract the England international, but they should try.

He has slipped out of Gareth Southgate’s plans and needs to be playing regular football with Euro 2021 on the horizon.

Rico Henry

West Ham need an upgrade at left back and Watkins’ Brentford team-mate Rico Henry fits the bill.

He attacks with vigour and loves a tackle, which made him stand out in the Championship last season.

Moyes has success dipping into the Championship to sign Jarrod Bowen last season and would hope for similar with Henry.
