Three players Simon Grayson could raid former clubs to sign if appointed Hull City boss

The former Sunderland and Preston North End boss is said to be a strong contender for the Hull City post.

Sacked Sunderland manager Simon Grayson is a strong contender for the Hull City manager’s job, according to the Hull Daily Mail.

And with January right around the corner, the 47-year-old could be straight to work on potential signings if he’s hired as Leonid Slutsky’s successor.

That in mind, here are three players he could raid former clubs Sunderland and Preston North End to sign…

Paul Huntington

Hull are owners of the Championship’s third-worst defence, while only four of their league rivals have conceded fewer goals than Preston this season, with Huntington playing a big part in that. The 30-year-old is out of contract next summer (although Preston do have an extra year’s option, according to Transfermarkt) but may be tempted by the idea of a fresh challenge after five and a half seasons at Deepdale – four and a half of which were under Grayson.

Callum Robinson

Robinson has impressed since Grayson brought him to Preston from Aston Villa in 2015. However, the winger has made only seven league starts under the Yorkshireman’s successor, Alex Neil, and may begin to develop itchy feet if his situation doesn’t improve before January. Hull are not exactly blessed with options out wide, and could lose Kamil Grosicki in January. Nevertheless, Robinson may be difficult to prise away having only recently signed a new contract.

Lewis Grabban

Hull have not been too bad in attack, but with Abel Hernandez and Adama Diomande both out of contract next summer, new additions could be on Grayson’s agenda. His signing of Grabban was inspired – albeit something of an anomaly during his time at Sunderland – with the on-loan Bournemouth man scoring 11 goals in 16 Championship outings this season. However, there are rumours he could return to Dean Court in January, with others able to afford a permanent transfer that Sunderland cannot. Could Hull be among them?
