It’s claimed the Rangers manager, Steven Gerrard, is wanted away from Ibrox.

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is seen during the Scottish Premier League match between Rangers and Hibernian at Ibrox Stadium on May 05, 2019 in Glasgow, Scotland.

The Rangers manager, Steven Gerrard, is on the shortlist to replace his former boss, Rafa Benitez, at Newcastle United, according to The Telegraph.

There is little to suggest yet that Gerrard would consider leaving Rangers.

But if he does it could spell further trouble for the Scottish giants, whose key men may be among those eyed by the former Liverpool captain at Newcastle.

Here are three players, from Rangers or otherwise, that we think Gerrard could target at St James’ Park.

Glen Kamara (Rangers)

Glen Kamara of Rangers celebrates at the final whistle during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and Celtic at Ibrox Stadium on May 12, 2019 in Glasgow, Scotland.

A £50,000 pick up from Dundee in January, Kamara has so far exceeded all expectation at Ibrox, where his classy central midfield performances have made him one of the first names on Gerrard’s teamsheet. Still only 23, the Finland international could prove a worthwhile investment for a club such as Newcastle, especially having lost Mohamed Diame from their own engine room this summer.

Harry Wilson (Liverpool)

Harry Wilson of Derby County during the Sky Bet Championship Play-off Final match between Aston Villa and Derby County at Wembley Stadium on May 27, 2019 in London, United Kingdom.

Not a Rangers player, but one with whom Gerrard will be familiar from his time at Liverpool. Wilson has excelled while on loan to Hull City and Derby County in the past 18 months and is already being tipped for a Premier League move this summer, with Newcastle one of several credited with interest in a possible £25 million deal (Sky Sports). Having Gerrard on board could swing things in the Magpies’ direction.

Alfredo Morelos (Rangers)

Alfredo Morelos of Rangers celebrates at the final whistle during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and Celtic at Ibrox Stadium on May 12, 2019 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Arguably Gerrard’s most important player – even if he was missing for large parts of last season through suspension. Morelos scored or made 67 goals in 91 games for Rangers and could be exactly what Newcastle require after seeing another South American, Salomon Rondon, return to West Bromwich Albion.
