Bookies’ favourite Paul Heckingbottom is in contention to become the new manager of Bradford City, just days after he was sacked by Leeds United.

Bookies’ favourite Paul Heckingbottom is in contention to become the new manager of Bradford City, just days after he was sacked by Leeds United (Yorkshire Post).

But which players could be the Barnsley native target if he lands the Valley Parade gig? Here are three potential options…

Matt Mills (Unattached)

Heckingbottom brought the experienced centre-half to Barnsley in January, but left for Leeds shortly after. Bradford only have three senior players remaining in Mills’ position, which could make him a target for his former boss once more, having been released by the Tykes.

Adam Hammill (Unattached)

A key member of the Barnsley side promoted under Heckingbottom two years ago, Hammill is also leaving Oakwell at the end of his contract this summer. Interest from Australia has been reported, although the winger may be tempted to reunite with the 40-year-old instead. Bradford could use another in Hammill’s position.

Jack Clarke (Leeds United)

One of several bright young prospects at Leeds, Clarke could also enter Heckingbottom’s thoughts. The sacked Whites boss spoke highly of the teenage winger whilst at Elland Road, but stopped short of handing out a senior debut. He may be more inclined to at a lower level, mind, while Leeds may consider a loan deal – especially if they strengthen as expected this summer.
