Newcastle United’s squad depth is among the best in the Championship.
Newcastle United fans celebrate
Despite a slightly shaky start, Newcastle United have enjoyed an excellent season since being relegated from the Premier League to the Championship. After securing the services of Champions League winning manager Rafa Benitez, the Magpies have played extremely well this season and look set to bounce straight back up to the top flight.
With such a large and talented squad, plenty of Newcastle United players haven’t featured as much as you might have expected, as Rafa Benitez tries hard to ditch his rotation methods and stick mostly with the same team.
With this is mind, HITC Sport has put together a list of three Newcastle United players that fans would like to see more of. But did we get our selections right? Let us know your thoughts and which Newcastle players you’d like to see more of in the comments.
1. Isaac Hayden
Isaac Hayden of Newcastle United
When he’s played, Isaac Hayden has looked excellent for Newcastle United this season, providing the legs and energy in the centre of Newcastle’s midfield, often carrying defence into attack. However, after the midfielder picked up a serious injury, Newcastle fans are still waiting for the former Hull City man to come back to full fitness, and will be desperate to see him continue his fine form.
2. Grant Hanley
Newcastle United’s Grant Hanley celebrates
The former Blackburn Rovers defender has only made eight appearances for Newcastle this season, most down to the fact that the immense partnership between Jamaal Lascelles and Ciaran Clark has kept him out of the team. However, the Scottish international has impressed when he’s played, and Newcastle United fans will be keen to see what he can do if given the opportunity to string a run of games together.
3. Rolando Aarons
Rolando Aarons scores for Newcastle
The young midfielder has only made four appearances for Newcastle United this season, after impressing fans last season in his often brief cameos in the Premier League. Able to play both centrally and on the flanks in the midfield, as well as in defence, Aarons is a versatile young player who may have been expected to feature more this season under Rafa Benitez. Perhaps this is testament to just how good Newcastle’s regular starting eleven have been.
