Three players linked to Eduardo Macia that Leicester City could target if Spaniard is hired as head of recruitment

The Spaniard has reportedly been lined up as Steve Walsh’s successor.

According to the Telegraph, Leicester City hope to appoint Spaniard Eduardo Macia as their new head of recruitment, replacing Steve Walsh who left for Everton this summer.

Having worked for a number of major European sides – among them Valencia, Liverpool and Olympiacos – the 42-year-old would bring with him an extensive list of contacts, on which the following names could feature.

3) Vasilis Torosidis

Not only linked to Macia through their overlapping stints at Olympiacos, but also Claudio Ranieri, who is the Greek’s old national team boss. Leicester’s natural right-back options are limited now Ritchie De Laet has left, and Torosidis would provide Danny Simpson with adequate competition. One obstacle could be his recent transfer (as of last Wednesday) to Bologna. However, it is not beyond the realms of possibility that another move could happen in January.

2) Raul Albiol

According to Calciomercato, Albiol, who was emerging at Valencia at a time when both Macia and Ranieri were also employed at the Mestalla, was keen to leave Napoli this summer, but the Azzurri held on. However, with his contract expiring next summer, the 31-year-old may get his (alleged) wish before long. Leicester are not exactly short in Albiol’s position, but the chance to add a player of his calibre (a La Liga and World Cup winner) could appeal.

1) Javier Mascherano

Signed during Macia’s four-year spell at Liverpool, Mascherano, although an ambitious recruit, would be an almost like-for-like replacement for last season’s star man N’Golo Kante, signed of course by Chelsea in the summer. The Argentine only agreed a new three-year deal last month, but at 32 his impact on Barcelona is surely on the wane. A move to Leicester could provide a welcome new challenge a window or two down the line.

Not convinced? How about…) Dani Ceballos

Wanted by Real Madrid last autumn, according to Marca, Ceballos at 20 is a more youthful option than those mentioned above. The central midfielder currently plies his trade for Real Betis, whom Macia left earlier this year, and could be a cheaper – and more attainable – alternative to Sporting’s Adrien Silva, the subject of a failed Leicester bid last month (Daily Mail).
