HITC Sport have been looking at some former Leeds United players who fans might like to see back, including a West Ham midfielder and a former striker.

Along with Huddersfield Town and Barnsley, Leeds United have arguably been the surprise of the season. When Garry Monk took over in the summer, many expected the former Swansea City manager would need time to turn the club around under Leeds owner Massimo Cellino.

However, bringing in an exciting attacking style of football, as well as transforming their defence, Garry Monk’s Leeds United are unrecognisable to the one we have watched over the last few years, and are now genuine title contenders.

But which ex-Leeds United players might fans like to see back at Elland Road? HITC Sport has drawn together a list of three ex-Leeds men who would do a great job for Garry Monk’s side, but have we missed anyone out? Here’s a look at our top three…

1. Mark Viduka

The Australian forward goes down as one of Leeds United’s best ever players, after scoring 59 goals in 130 games for the Whites between 2000-2004. Strong, skillful, with a bullet header and the ability to score from anywhere, Viduka was at one point arguably one of the best strikers in the Premier League, and fans were gutted to see him depart for Middlesbrough in 2004. Similar in ways to Chris Wood, the Viduka of yesterday could slot straight into this Garry Monk side.

2. Gary McAllister

The midfielder made 231 appearances for Leeds United between 1990-1996, after joining the side from Leicester City after five successful years. Scoring 31 goals, McAllister became one of the best midfielders in the first division. Forming a strong quartet along with midfielders Gordon Strachan, David Batty and Gary Speed, McAllister became the Leeds star that tied all their talented players together.

3. Robert Snodgrass

A goal-scoring midfielder with a speciality for set-plays wouldn’t go amiss amongst this Leeds United side, and many fans were wondering whether the club might be able to sneak in a cheeky bid for former Leeds man Robert Snodgrass in January, with the player all set to leave Hull City. Unfortunately however, the Scotsman chose West Ham United and has done a fine job of stepping into Dimitri Payet’s shoes of late. With Leeds United looking to jump up to the Premier League at the end of the season though, this can’t be ruled out in the future.
