Aston Villa are said to be considering Dean Smith if Steve Bruce steps down.

With rumours that Dean Smith could join Aston Villa growing louder, after suggestions that he was on their wishlist were made public in The Sun on Sunday (30/09, page 59), we take a look at three players the Brentford boss could bring in at Villa Park to make the claret and blues a better team.
John Terry

The rumours which just won’t go away. Villa have wanted to bring Terry back ever since the new owners came in, but they have been unable to agree a deal so far.
Current Villa boss Steve Bruce actually has a really strong relationship with Terry.
But if Smith wanted to get Villa fans on side straight away then signing the England international centre-back would be a wise move.
Neal Maupay

At 22 years of age, Maupay looks set to become one of the most hotly sought after strikers in England, if he keeps up his current scoring rate.
Maupay leads the Championship’s scoring charts, and would improve Villa’s forward options, if he was to join.
Chris Mepham

If there’s one area of weakness in Villa’s squad it is at centre-back.
Mepham wouldn’t come cheaply from Brentford, but he would still be an appealing addition to Villa’s squad.
