Aston Villa’s promotion hopes are thinning and Bruce must add to his side in January.
Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce will becoming increasingly worried at Villa Park as his Midlands outfit have slipped out of the Championship’s top-six places.
A winless run of five games sees them three points adrift in eighth place despite earlier challenging for a place in the top two. Bruce needs additions in January, and should look to form a reunion with these three players.
David Meyler (Hull City)
The Republic of Ireland international worked under Bruce during his time at Hull City between 2012 and 2016, and is now out of contract in the summer which could make him available in a cut-price deal next month.
The 28-year-old is known for his combative style of play, that warms the hearts of fans and drives a team forward. He also boasts promotion experience from the Championship after two promotions under Bruce with Hull.
Nedum Onuoha (QPR)
The London-based club’s captain is also in the final six months of his contract and has impressed at Loftus Road to the extent that he has reportedly interested Premier League high-flyers Burnley.
Tommy Elphick and Chris Samba have hardly set the world alight at Villa, while John Terry remains injured with a broken foot and a new centre-back could be on Bruce’s agenda. He would do a lot worse than signing the former Manchester City star, with whom he worked with at Sunderland.
Adama Diomande (Hull City)
Norwegian striker Diomande boasts the kind physical presence Villa are crying out for with Gabby Agbonlahor and Jonathan Kodjia sidelined through injury.
Keinan David has been tasked with leading the line and although he has impressed, his goal return is simply not good enough. Again, a potential bargain in January due to his contract, Diomande would be a useful signing.
