The former Newcastle United and Crystal Palace boss is among the contenders to replace Mark Warburton at Rangers, after the Englishman left Ibrox in acrimonious circumstances.

Former Newcastle United and Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew is among the bookies’ favourites to succeed Mark Warburton at Glasgow Rangers.
Already familiar with Rangers’ interim boss Graeme Murty, a player he has worked with twice before, Pardew may be tempted by a move north of the border.
Could any more of the 55-year-old’s former charges follow if he gets the nod?
Damien Delaney (Crystal Palace)

By no means glamourous, but a good experience pro nonetheless, Delaney is out of contract at Crystal Palace this summer, and could be on his way regardless of which division the Eagles are in. Rangers have two defenders of their own whose deals expire shortly and the 35-year-old, who has captained Palace, would be an upgrade on both Clint Hill and Philippe Senderos. Delaney’s alleged Catholic roots could be difficult for either party to overcome, however.
Sammy Ameobi (Newcastle United)

Pardew handed the winger his senior debut at Newcastle and used him frequently during his final campaign on Tyneside. Ameobi is out of contract at St James’ in June, and is therefore available for nothing being over the age of 24 already. A natural left-footed wide option is not something Rangers currently have in abundance.
Rickie Lambert (Cardiff City)

Signed by Pardew for Southampton in 2009 – the same summer as Murty, in fact – Lambert went on to fire the Saints through the divisions in his former boss’ absence, later appearing for Liverpool, West Bromwich Albion and England. Now 35, Lambert has struggled for games at Championship side Cardiff, but has still managed to score one goal for every four league appearances and would still have something to offer Rangers, especially if Kenny Miller leaves.
