Former Nottingham Forest manager Dougie Freedman has emerged as a surprise early favourite for the Wolverhampton Wanderers job vacated by Walter Zenga on Tuesday (SkyBet).

If appointed, could the Scot lure the following Forest stars to Molineux.

3) Daniel Pinillos

Amid reports that Manchester United are considering recalling Cameron Borthwick-Jackson in January, it is feasible that Wolves could seek another left-back in January. Pinillos was signed by Freedman 15 months ago and was a regular until late December – at which point he suffered a season-ending injury. The Spaniard remains on the comeback trail, although Forest have recruited Armand Traore in the meantime and he may struggle to get back in.

2) Henri Lansbury

Lansbury scored in each of Forest’s first five Championship fixtures under Freeman and barely missed a game while the Scot was in charge. Although Wolves are far from short where central midfielders are concerned, a player of the 26-year-old’s calibre – three goals and three assists this season – could be difficult to turn down given that his contract expires in June.

1) Britt Assombalonga

Despite playing just 160 minutes this season, Assombalonga has already scored more league goals (three) than any Wolves player. The Congolese appeared twice under Freedman, scoring once, and the Scot may feel he has unfinished business with the Forest striker, who when fit could transform this Wanderers side.
