Nottingham Forest have one of the Championship’s biggest squads.

Nottingham Forest manager Aitor Karanka looks on at Pride Park Stadium on December 17, 2018 in Derby, England.

A total of 17 players have arrived at Nottingham Forest since the end of last season, leaving the Reds with a first-team squad of close to 30-strong.

But which players could leave the City Ground in January?

We spoke to three Forest fans to see what might happen…

Will Nottingham Forest need to sell to raise funds?

Olympiakos Piraeus midfielder Panagiotis Tachtsidis from Greece during the UEFA Champions League match between Sporting CP and Olympiakos Piraeus at Estadio Jose Alvalade on November 22,...

Christian Brown (Chris78901): No, not this season anyway. We will probably see Panagiotis Tachtsidis depart as he hasn’t played for us yet, but otherwise I don’t believe we need to sell to buy.

Lee Clarke (Clarkey_No1): I’d say so, yes.

Tom Waker (TomasWalker): I don’t think so, Marinakis seems to have funds available for the team.

Are there any positions that are over-stocked?

Liam Bridcutt of Nottingham Forest during the Carabao Cup Second Round match between Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United at City Ground on August 29, 2018 in Nottingham, England.

CB: You could argue midfield as we have Jack Colback, Claudio Yacob, Adlene Guedioura, Tachtsidis and Ryan Yates there, while Ben Osborn and Matty Cash can also be deployed in those central positions, but Colback, Yacob and Tachtsidis are all more defensive, while Guedioura and Yates (who I don’t think has made a league appearance for us yet) are more box-to-box.

LC: Central midfield! It is a bit of joke to be honest. Forest have Ryan Yates and Liam Bridcutt who haven’t kicked a ball this season in the league (Bridcutt played for one minute against Rotherham). Ben Watson is also on the fringes these days.

TW: Central midfield! We have tons of options and most of them are playing secondary roles just to fit in.

Which players do you fear losing in January and which would you like to see the back of?

Joe Lolley of Nottingham Forest during the Sky Bet Championship match between Derby County and Nottingham Forest at Pride Park Stadium on December 17, 2018 in Derby, England.

CB: Naturally, the worry is a Premier League side will come in and swoop for Joe Lolley, who must be kept at all costs if we are to challenge for top six this season. In terms of players I’d like to see leave, for the first time in a very long time, there’s actually no-one at the club at present I’d openly want to bomb out.

LC: Joe Lolley is the obvious one as on his day he is the best player in the league. I think Watson is the obvious one. Last season during his loan spell he was brilliant but since the start of the current campaign his legs seem to have deserted him.

TW: Arvin Appiah has been linked away. We again have a great youth product on our hands and I’d hate to see him go before he had a good few seasons with us first. I don’t want anybody to be sold to be honest, I’m pretty happy.

Any players (including loanees) you suspect could leave?

Jordan Smith of Nottingham Forest in action during a pre-season friendly match between Notts County and Nottingham Forest at Meadow Lane on July 19, 2017 in Nottingham, England.

CB: Tachtsidis will probably depart permanently while Jordan Smith and Yates may leave on loan from the current crop, while the likes of Jamie Ward and Zach Clough (on loan at Charlton Athletic and Rochdale respectively) are probably finished at Forest forever.

LC: Bridcutt will surely go, whilst Ryan Yates seems certain to depart on loan during the month. A couple of others could leave but at this stage it is difficult to say. Karanka rotates his pack quite frequently so it’s a tough call as to who he doesn’t see as part of his plans.

TW: Daryl Murphy is linked away but Karanka won’t let him go without a back up. Jordan Smith, a one time promising goalkeeper who had a recently emergency loan away from the club needs to leave for his own sake.
