Tottenham signed Moussa Sissoko from Newcastle in the summer.

Moussa Sissoko’s transfer to Tottenham is not working out as a success so far, with the midfielder dropped from the squad entirely for their defeat to Chelsea at the weekend.

The France international left Championship side Newcastle United behind, with many Toon fans glad to see the back of him.

Sissoko was far from the only talented player on Newcastle’s books, as this season is proving. Here is a look at three players at the club who Tottenham would have been better off signing instead…

Ayoze Perez

The promising attacker has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur in the past, and even scored a dramatic winner at White Hart Lane last season.

The former Tenerife prospect can play in a variety of positions up front and could have been a better investment than Georges-Kevin N’Koudou, as he is already up to speed with English football.

The 23-year-old has three goals and two assists this season, and Newcastle will be glad to have managed to hold onto him ahead of their imminent return to the Premier League next season.

Jamaal Lascelles

With money to spend in the summer, Tottenham would have been better off throwing their money at Jamaal Lascelles, Newcastle’s current captain.

The Magpies would have been reluctant sellers, but the £30 million Spurs chucked at Sissoko could have changed their minds.

Unlike Sissoko who peaked at Euro 2016 and has reverted to type, centre-back Lascelles has a chance of becoming a £30 million player.

Winger Rolando Aarons is an England under-21 international and has suffered misfortune this season with a serious knee injury.

Who knows what would have happened had he moved on in the summer, as when fit the 21-year-old winger is a dynamic threat with fantastic potential.

Spurs would have been better off taking a cheap punt on a young player like Aarons who Pochettino could mould and develop, than spending an extortionate fee on a Sissoko.
